Every boat owner has a version of the same photo — the one taken from the dock, or from another boat, or by someone standing on the bow with a phone held out at arm’s length. It’s not a great photo, technically speaking. But it’s the one that gets saved, shared, and looked at again long after the trip is over, because it’s not really a photo of a boat. It’s a photo of a specific afternoon.
That’s the idea Ripple & Fin started with: that photo deserves to be more than something buried in a camera roll.
The gap we noticed
Boat owners tend to be some of the most sentimental people about their gear — ask anyone who’s spent a weekend re-varnishing brightwork or naming a vessel after someone who mattered to them. But almost none of that sentiment ever makes it onto a wall. Boating gifts, as a category, had settled into the same handful of items for years: koozies, signs, decor that says “boat” in general terms without saying anything about your boat in particular.
We wanted to make something that was actually about the specific vessel — not boats as a theme, but the one you own, the one you’ve spent money and weekends and probably a few frustrating afternoons maintaining.
Why the live preview mattered to us

What “Ripple & Fin” means to us
The name is meant to hold both halves of what a boat represents — the ripple, the wake you leave behind, the trace of every trip you’ve taken; and the fin, the part of the boat doing the quiet work of keeping you steady and moving forward. Most boat owners don’t think about either one consciously. They just know how it feels to be out there.
